pop the hood and check the back for a bad ground strap. All motors have 1 or 2 braided copper straps that go from the block to the frame / fireway. sometimes they get brittle and break

Are you sure this is not a static thing. I get a pretty good shot when I get out of my truck every morning.

ok thanks
ok ill check that , but i was also told of getting rubber straps long enough to touch the ground , like you see behind motor homes to cancel the static electricity , but ill definatley check the ground strap off the block thanks

those rubber straps do help. On something that large.
Static builds up due to the spinning of the motor... So yes TRC, you are right. but the ground strap that goes from the motor to the body...then the body to the wheels... then of course, the wheels to the ground is suppost to eliminate that shock... however. if a grond strap is bad. it will shock the hell out of you.
My Firebird did that until I replaced the ground strap.

If the weather warms up to a balmy 40 - 50 degrees again and you don't have the problem, then it is definitely static. Weather says it is supposed to be in the 50's again tomorrow or Tuesday I think. Keep tabs on it that day and if you don't get zapped... you know what you need to do.
Suck it up. j/k That's just what I do. I find it easier if I just ram my finger onto the door of the truck to expect the shock rather than be surprised by it.

It's static. The colder and dryer it is, the worse it'll be. My old Silverado did it to me. My GMC, not so much. Only when the conditions are right.
Cheers, Lee S.

Touch the metal of the door before you start to get out. I bet you have cloth seats in it. My ford truck won't shock me, but the dodge that I drive will. The dodge has cloth seats and the ford has vinal. The dodge would shock me when brand new.

u know how you fix static? u have to before u get out spin 3 times clockwise in your seat....grab the wheel firmly with both hands(stay with me here)smack forehead firmly against the steering wheel--sounding horn---3 times...then slowly get out watching not to fall down in the process..
repeat as necasary.....
