Looks like the mustang is the first to use the new garage.
well. I guess there is another Speed-Freekz project car. The 66 mustang.
I brought her down to get inspected, with the charger. The charger passed. however the mustang didn't... heres why.
For those that are new to the board, you don't know the story behind the mustang. My wife always wanted one. it was her dream car, so for a wedding present I bought one and spent a few months hiding it from her and fixing it up to give to her on out wedding night. she doesn't drive it much however. maybe a few times a year.
well. from sitting in the old garage for about a year and a half. The drivers side rear frame rail rotten away to almost nothing. The torque box it wasted and the mount for the rear shackles. Basically, The car is now a death trap.
I'm going to have to tear the whole freaking car apart and replace both frame rails (might as well do both) to the tune of a bit over $500 for just the rails.
I just wish I had a V8 driveline to make it all worth it
well. The garage is amost done, and it looks like the Charger is going to be put on the back burner for a bit....that pisses me off. my 440 money and bodywork money now has to go into the ford

You could drop it off down here, next door to me, at Govel Welding to patch it up? It wouldn't be pretty, but it will pass inspection and be safe.
Car looks nice, did you do the body and paint?

I can't afford anyone to do the welding for me, but thanks for the offer...
I did basically a 10 foot body shop job, but since i've had it a lot more has been done. Muddyrover came over a few years ago and helped my put new floors in her. I re did the interior, and have since done a few other odds and ends. a whole new front end <suspension> and such. I guess it way just a matter of time
I'll get some pictures of the spots soon and post them up...
Picture 1. Now
Picture 2. how I got it
Picture 3. Muddy welding
main thing that gets me it once again, all this work and time and money into a striaght 6

only thing holding it together is the floors...
well....we knew it was only a matter of time....the best solution....is a southern or AZ tub....like we talked about before. just keep telling the wife it would be the same car...because it really is...just minus all the rust.
if you want to patch it up some more, you'll have to bring it up....i've got a new welder and plasma cutter... it's no longer portable...

I never realized that you originally built that car up while "hiding" it from the fiance.
That's quite the accomplishment!

Since you are changing the frame, get one for the V8 and swap it out. Not sure on the old stangs, but my 81 was easy to convert from a straight 6 to an 8.

The older mustangs have a unibody, for a V8 swap there is nothing different. Just the motor mounts.
Problem isn't the 6 to 8, it's getting a hold of an affordable 289 and trannie. I would rather find a whole donor car to be honest. 65 and 66 have a lot of different items between 6 and 8 cyl engines. Rear end, spindles, inner and outters, steering linkage and a few other items...
the donor car would have to be a 66 V8 also. a 65 will not work with the spindle setup and a 67 - 69 are wider cars. So i'm kinda limited
god I hate Fords

Crate motor. Bell housings should bolt up. Might need a new flex plate and convertor I have a C4 in my mustang, it runs high 12's no problem Probably has an 8" rear, plenty strong enough, a lot better than the 8.8's. Upgrade the front brakes to disc. Drive accessories should bolt on, May need new brackets though. It probably depends on how "correct" you want to be.

hehe I understand what you are saying, but this is the wifes car
a small 289 stock drivetrain would be fine. if I was going to put any kind of real money into a car like that it would be the Charger
The mustang doesn't have to be "correct" just a daily driver. I have all winter. I'll just keep my eye open for a good donor car. and with all of you here, i'm sure i'll find one
we can continue the Charger ideas in the mopar section though
