Post subject:  header noise?

Hey guys i just put a pair of headmans on my polara and I have an odd noise.I dont know if its normal or if I have a motor issue. Its quite at idle and sounds fine at higher rpms, but as I give it gas It has like a nocking sound.Or more like a low tone rattle.I have never run headers before and Im a little worried about the motor. Any help? Thanks..

threw headers you will hear more valve train noise, but it shouldn't be that noticiable. Have you looked to see if the headers are hitting something? Look for scratches or dings ont he headers to see if they are comming into contact with anything.

Any exhaust leaks? Sounds like it...Start it up when it'd cold and put your hands around everywhere.

Did you use the copper gaskets ? If not, The first time you blow the old ones ..go to them..They are not cheap, in comparision..but worth it..offering years of leak free service...

Any clearance issues? I got a knock when I put headers on my Trans-Am but it was just due to the header hitting the frame. Only happened at certain RPMs too.

if your using paper gaskets try soaking them in water first, then put them on wet. the water makes them swell so they seal better. it's an old trick but it works

well, the header noise is gone. doubled the gaskets. The header was riding on the raised lip of the head. That is the least of my worries now. The noise was covering a bad knock in the motor. I rebuilt it with a cast crank but put on a balancer for a fordged one. buy the time I figured it out it was way to late. Oh well hopefully its just the berings on the mains.
