Hrmmm...

I wonder how high the price is compared to the old days, given changes to the value of the dollar.

Now I am no economist and readily admit up front that I may be doing the math wrong here but let's see what we can find out...

Using this site:
http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/

A dollar in 2006 (unfortunately the latest data available) is worth $4.98 in 1971.

I found a 1971 Challenger price guide here:

http://members.aol.com/cudaesp/cars/chlngr.html

Base model 2dr hardtop was $2950.00

Hemi motor option was $789.95

There were loads of other options such as Posi, interior groups, etc so let's tack on an extra grand to build a fictitious "loaded" '71 with a Hemi motor (similar power output to the new car).

1971 price: $4739.95

Now I think if we multiply the 1971 price by the 2006 dollar value offset we would get the adjusted 2008 price. Again I could have something backwards but here we go:

$4739.95 x $4.98 = $23,604.91

If this is correct then I suppose we are looking at a bit of markup here.

$4739.95 x $4.98 = $23,604.91

now add $12,000 for the increased cost of the average hourly labor
then add $3,000 for the adjusted price of steel ..... which take it from me is amazingly high !!!

And finally another $3,000 to $4,000 per auto for increased overhead , due to overpriced ceo's and operating factory's with skyrocketing energy prices!!! :D

I think the prices are right on mark with the rest of the over inflated economy

my god, it's like being on albanyunderground, no import talk in the chally thread :nana:

but yes, the first year will be limited run, the 09's will have a 6 cyl, 5.7, and srt-8 model, the 5.7 and srt-8 will be available with a 6 speed stick. I would almost.... almost consider selling the Charger for one of these bad bodys.

and the price will come down next year as well. I would buy a 5.7 ver so I can mod the fuck out of it and not think twice.

i just went to the web site and built my own it is automatic only.. auto slapstick. unless its just the 08 models are 5 speed auto with autostick and next year in 09 they will offer the manual. but i just tryed to build an 08 model srt8 and it dont have an option for the manual tranny

and edit added** if you ever sell that car you better give jimmerz dibs LOL even though im broke lol

I thought it was supposed to have the fuel efficieny garbage the 1500 trucks have (shuts down half the engine)?

If it got 20+ it would be fine IMO, but those numbers are some serious kida ugly. That is worse than the 4x4 trucks.

Chevy and Dodge are both already using it. From what I hear, it's pretty seemless. I think they are using it on the new impalas with the 8 in it.
